Estonia hosted the most influential education summit – ISTP 2026
Estonia has established itself as a global leader in education, consistently serving as a benchmark for high-performing systems. According to the latest PISA (Programme for International Student Assessment) results, Estonia ranks first in Europe in basic education and among the very best worldwide. This position also brings numerous international education-related events and conferences to Estonia.
The International Summit on the Teaching Profession (ISTP) is one of the most influential global education summits. It brings together OECD countries whose PISA results rank among the highest in the world.
In March 8-11, Tallinn hosted ISTP 2026, bringing together education ministers, union leaders, and experts from nearly 20 countries. Over three inspiring days, delegations shared their experiences, strategies and challenges around the use of AI in education.
The discussions made one thing clear: while technology and AI can help teachers work more efficiently, think more broadly, and unlock new possibilities, the essence of teaching remains deeply human. Empathy, professional judgment, and meaningful connection cannot be replaced.
The main program took place at Tallinn Creative Hub, one of Northern Europe’s most distinctive venues. Memorable moments also included the gala dinner at the Seaplane Harbour, as well as visits to the Arvo Pärt Centre and PROTO Invention Factory.
A special highlight was the opportunity for delegates to experience Estonian school life. Over two days, local students and teachers welcomed guests into their classrooms. Delegates didn’t just observe — they participated. In one memorable moment, Singapore’s Minister of Education joined a third-grade music class and made music together with the students.
The summit concluded with a closing session where country representatives reflected on key insights and set priorities for the future of education.
ISTP 2026 was organised by the Ministry of Education and Research in cooperation with the Estonian Education Personnel Union, OECD and Education International.
