Behind the Iron Curtain: KGB Museum at Hotel Viru

Step behind one of Tallinn’s most intriguing hidden doors and uncover the secret world of Soviet espionage. Tucked away on the 23rd floor of the legendary Hotel Viru, the KGB Museum reveals a chapter of history that remained hidden from hotel guests for decades.

During this guided tour, groups visit the preserved KGB surveillance rooms where agents once monitored foreign visitors using concealed microphones, spy cameras and eavesdropping equipment. Through captivating stories and authentic artefacts, expert guides bring to life the contrast between the Soviet propaganda of a perfect society and the far more complex reality experienced by those living behind the Iron Curtain.

The one-hour experience offers a fascinating insight into Estonia’s recent past, complemented by panoramic views over Tallinn from the top of the hotel. It is an engaging and thought-provoking activity for groups interested in history, politics and the stories that shaped modern Estonia.
