10 Food & Drink Experiences in Tallinn, Estonia

Planning a conference dinner, a team activity or an incentive programme? In and around Tallinn, your group can cook with local chefs, dine in a forest or discover the stories behind Estonian craft drinks. These ten ideas range from hands-on workshops and tastings to dinners that become an event in their own right.

Take your dinner into the forest

At Metsaresto, your group sits down to dinner in Nõmbra Forest, less than an hour’s drive from central Tallinn. Food is prepared over an open fire, with a menu shaped by Nordic cooking and seasonal ingredients. Pair the meal with a guided hike or bog walk to make it part of a longer programme in nature. Depending on the package, the chef can introduce the dishes and share the stories behind the ingredients and cooking traditions.

The experience is available for groups of at least 10. When planning your schedule, allow time for the return journey as well as dinner and any activities.

VR dinner? Don´t worry – the food is real

Dinner guests wearing VR headsets at PROTO Invention Factory in Tallinn’s Noblessner district

At PROTO Invention Factory in Tallinn’s waterfront Noblessner district, a four-course menu inspired by Estonian cuisine comes with an unexpected ingredient: virtual reality. Between courses, guests put on headsets to explore Estonian bogs, forests and farmyards, with the occasional mythical creature appearing along the way. The headsets come off for the meal, leaving time to enjoy the food and compare experiences around the table.

Available for groups of 24-40, the dinner brings local landscapes and folklore into an evening that combines food, technology and storytelling.

Dine like a medieval merchant

At Olde Hansa in Tallinn’s Old Town, dinner takes its cue from the prosperous merchants of the 15th century. Medieval-inspired dishes, period costumes and music create the atmosphere of a Hanseatic feast.

The restaurant’s location close to Town Hall Square makes it a natural starting or finishing point for an evening in the Old Town. Pair dinner with a guided walk through the surrounding streets to give your group a fuller introduction to medieval Tallinn.

Cook dinner together with a local chef

At Toiduakadeemia in central Tallinn, guests work in teams to prepare different courses of a shared meal under the guidance of professional chefs. Each team has a part to play, from preparing the ingredients to plating the dishes, before everyone sits down to enjoy the results.

A shorter lunchtime workshop is also available, giving organisers another way to fit social cooking into the programme.

For a particular focus on local flavours, another option is the Modern Estonian Cuisine Workshop. Here, participants work alongside a restaurant chef to prepare a four-course dinner from local ingredients in a private open kitchen.

One Estonian word worth learning before a tasting is terviseks – cheers! At Junimperium’s bar in Tallinn’s Telliskivi district, a guided tasting introduces your group to the distillery’s story and the botanicals behind its craft gins. After a welcome drink, guests taste eight gins with their host, comparing aromas and flavours as they go.

The experience is available in English and Estonian, making it an option for both local teams and international groups.

Get creative with a marzipan workshop

According to local legend, marzipan was invented in Tallinn. The city’s connection with the sweet almond paste stretches back to the Hanseatic era, when it was sold as a remedy at the historic Town Hall Pharmacy. Today, groups can explore that story at a workshop in the Kalev chocolate shop. Participants learn about marzipan and its making before shaping and painting their own small figurines.

The workshop adds a creative activity and a little local history to your programme, with an edible souvenir to take away.

Choose the setting for a pop-up dinner

Maitsemaa brings a pop-up forest restaurant to outdoor locations across Estonia. Plan a multi-course meal beside a bog, at the end of a hiking trail or in another setting agreed with the team.

Chefs prepare and serve the food on site, using grills, woks and live fire, with a focus on Estonian and seasonal ingredients. For an incentive trip or team outing, this allows you to build dinner into the day’s route at a location that suits your programme.

In southern Estonia, the service is available for groups of 10 or more; elsewhere, the minimum is 15.

It also includes a tasting and a guided museum tour exploring Estonia’s chocolate-making history. Guests leave with gift boxes of their own creations.

Other workshops introduce chocolate-making through lollipops or explore the journey from cocoa bean to chocolate bar.

At Toiduakadeemia in central Tallinn, Wine Poker gives a wine tasting a competitive twist. Led by a professional sommelier, guests taste wines blind and try to identify grape varieties, regions or styles. Correct answers earn poker chips, and no previous wine knowledge is needed.

The game is followed by a private multi-course dinner prepared by the venue’s chefs. With the activity and meal in one place, the format gives organisers a complete evening to consider for a client event or corporate gathering.
