New National Guideline Promotes Greener Event Planning in Estonia

The Estonian Ministry of Climate has published a national guideline for organising environmentally sustainable events. Titled “National Guideline for Environmentally Friendly Events”, the document serves as a practical tool to help event organisers make conscious, sustainable choices throughout all phases of event planning and execution.

More than just a manual for reducing environmental impact, the guideline also encourages organisers to raise awareness among participants. An informed participant is not merely a visitor but becomes an advocate for sustainable values in their community and daily life.

The guideline covers key areas where environmental impact can be reduced, including:

  • Materials and procurement
  • Transport and logistics
  • Energy use
  • Catering and water use
  • Waste management
  • Engagement with the local community and surroundings
  • Accessibility
  • Communication
  • Requirements and recommendations for catering providers

The full guideline is available on the Ministry of Climate’s official website.
