Tallinn Honours the Best Conferences and Organisers of 2024
A formal appreciation event was held last night at the Mövenpick Hotel Tallinn, where the City of Tallinn and the Estonian Convention Bureau celebrated the recipients of the 2024 Conference Achievement of the Year Award and recognised the most outstanding conferences held in Tallinn last year. The evening also marked the induction of 12 new Tallinn Conference Ambassadors, further solidifying the city’s reputation as a premier international conference destination.
According to Tallinn Deputy Mayor Margot Roose, conference tourism plays a crucial role in enhancing Tallinn’s global profile while making a significant contribution to the local economy. “International conferences bring together experts from diverse fields to Tallinn, offering opportunities for collaboration and innovation for our researchers and entrepreneurs. Conference tourism supports Tallinn’s year-round tourism industry and has a measurable economic impact. Last year, 24 conferences supported by the city’s conference funding programme generated an estimated €8.2 million for Tallinn. These exceptional results are thanks to the outstanding efforts of Tallinn’s conference professionals and businesses,” said Roose.
Highlight of the Year: CIOR/CIOMR/CISOR Summer Congress
The 2024 Conference Achievement of the Year Award, presented by the Estonian Convention Bureau, was awarded to the CIOR/CIOMR/CISOR Summer Congress, organised by the Estonian Reserve Officers Association (EROK). This congress welcomed over 500 international delegates from 30 countries to Tallinn and ran for five days in late August and early September.
Ott Sarapuu, Chairman of the Board of the Estonian Convention Bureau, commended the event for its extensive programme and international scope: “The winning event stood out in every respect, from its diverse and engaging programme to its 10-day CIOR Language Academy, which hosted 141 international participants. Additionally, the congress featured seminars, meetings, and a military pentathlon, making it truly unique and impactful.”
Recognising Excellence Across 20 International Conferences
During the event, 20 international conferences held in Tallinn in 2024 were acknowledged for their diverse range of topics, covering medicine, healthcare, linguistics, social psychology, digitalisation, and more. Special recognition was given to Tallinn’s flagship conferences, such as TMW Conference, BananaConf Tallinn, Lennart Meri Conference, Latitude59, The International Conference on Cyber Conflict, Nordic Testing Days, Annual Baltic Conference on Defence, Impact Day, and Industry@Tallinn & Baltic Event.
New Tallinn Conference Ambassadors Join the Ranks
Conference ambassadors, essential to attracting international events to Tallinn, are members of international networks and experts in their respective fields. Twelve new professionals were recognised at the event, joining Tallinn’s elite group of 111 Conference Ambassadors.
