Pärnu named European City of Sport 2027

Pärnu has been named European City of Sport 2027 by ACES Europe, the European Capitals and Cities of Sport Federation. The title recognises the city’s sports infrastructure, experience in hosting sporting events and wide range of opportunities for residents to stay active.

The federation, which works in partnership with the European Commission, sent its assessment committee to Pärnu in early October to visit sports facilities and meet the local sports community. Hugo Alonso, the federation’s Secretary General and a member of the committee, praised both the facilities and the city’s natural surroundings. “Pärnu has a lot to offer as a sports city,” he said.

Mayor Siim Suursild emphasised the city’s commitment to encouraging more people to get active. “For us, the European City of Sport title is not an end in itself,” he said. The city aims to use the recognition to support its sports community and make an active lifestyle part of everyday life.

Pärnu’s recognition follows Tallinn’s year as European Capital of Sport in 2025.

A seaside destination for meetings and active events

Around two hours’ drive from Tallinn, Estonia’s summer capital brings together conference venues, spa hotels and a seaside setting with beaches, parks and easy access to nature. This combination makes Pärnu an appealing choice for conferences on sport, health and wellbeing, as well as active incentive programmes and team events.

A meeting programme can be complemented by a cycling tour, a round of golf or group activities on the water. Spa and wellness experiences offer further ways to bring people together and unwind after a day of discussions.
