Tallinn and Tartu Among World’s Top 100 Conference Cities

Estonia’s conference destinations are gaining serious altitude. According to the freshly published ICCA (International Congress and Convention Association) global rankings, Tallinn and Tartu have both landed spots in the prestigious Top 100 list of the world’s best conference cities.

Tallinn holds steady at 57th place with 40 international association conferences hosted in 2023. But it’s Tartu that pulled off the real surprise — making a remarkable leap from 127th to 94th place, sharing the spotlight with global names like Osaka and Brisbane, and even outpacing New York.

At the country level, Estonia ranks 44th with a total of 69 qualifying conferences, leaving behind its Baltic neighbours Latvia (55th) and Lithuania (47th). The top conference nations globally remain the USA, Italy, and Spain.

According to Kadri Karu, Managing Director of the Estonian Convention Bureau, “Estonia continues to punch above its weight as a destination for professional and scientific conferences. These events are powerful platforms for showcasing our expertise, boosting international collaboration, and bringing valuable business to our tourism sector. We’re especially thrilled that Tartu’s European Capital of Culture year helped attract so many international events, cementing Estonia’s status among the world’s top conference destinations.”

The ICCA ranking tracks countries and cities that host regularly occurring international association conferences, rotating between at least three countries and welcoming 50+ participants. The 2024 listing includes 160 countries and is considered one of the most respected benchmarks in the global meetings industry.
