Estonian Breakfasts at Our Member Hotels

On the initiative of the Tallinn Tourism Department and the Estonian Hotel and Restaurant Association, a selection of Tallinn hotels will celebrate Estonian Food Month in September by bringing authentic, local flavors to the breakfast table: black bread, oatmeal porridge, homemade jams, kama, sprat sandwiches, organic eggs, and much more that characterizes Estonian food culture. After all, breakfast is the first chance to discover how Estonia tastes – and Estonian food starts with breakfast!

Estonian Food Month is a great opportunity for restaurants and hotels to highlight local ingredients and offer guests culinary experiences that are deeply rooted in our food culture. Throughout September, the spotlight is on what is genuine, fresh, and local – allowing restaurants to tell their story through food.

Among those offering Estonian breakfasts are several of our member hotels, who bring the best local produce to their tables, offering flavors that tell the story of Estonia. We asked our member hotels to introduce their offerings in more detail below:

Radisson Collection Hotel, Tallinn

At the restaurant MEKK, the breakfast buffet is truly Estonian – local flavors are marked with small Estonian flags, and each special product comes with a short description of its origin and character.

The selection includes natural Gouda-style goat’s cheese from Kolotsi Farm in Southern Estonia and Maasdam-style “Auklik” cow’s cheese made from organic milk. Sweet tooths will be delighted by a traditional quark-berry cake on a shortcrust base, made according to grandma’s recipe, using only local ingredients.

Since 2009, MEKK has proudly served its signature natural bread – a sweet-and-sour loaf made from rye flour, sourdough, and seeds, with a recipe that has remained unchanged. Guests will also find vitamin-rich mung bean sprouts and shoots from Pärnu County, grown with respect for nature.

Swissôtel Tallinn

At Swissôtel, local food holds pride of place at breakfast – currently about three-quarters of the selection is either of local origin or made with local ingredients. The goal is a 100% Estonian menu, though in reality, availability and price of ingredients set limits.

Each month, the breakfast table also features a themed corner with seasonal and timely dishes. In September, the focus is on Estonian flavors; in October, pumpkin and beetroot take the stage. Estonian dishes are always highlighted on Independence Day, when guests can discover our food heritage.

This time, the menu includes beloved classics and modern interpretations inspired by festive tables and fond personal memories. Naturally, sprat sandwiches, potato salad, barley bread, and kama are not to be missed. For dessert lovers, there are oat dumplings, “Cat Arthur’s cake,” and other small surprises.

An Estonian food special menu is also available at the Horizon Restaurant: veal sweetbread as a starter, celeriac as the main course, and rhubarb dessert to finish.

Mövenpick Hotel Tallinn

The breakfast table honors authentic, high-quality Estonian flavors. Egg dishes – whether fluffy omelets, classic fried eggs, or soft scrambled eggs – are made exclusively with free-range Estonian eggs.

Guests can enjoy a diverse selection of local cheeses, smoked hams, and poultry salamis to suit every taste. Pancake lovers will be delighted with morning pancakes served with jam. Alongside Mövenpick’s own jams, local Aakre jams are also offered, made from berries purchased from small Estonian farmers and foragers.

For health-conscious guests, Täkumetsa flakes and muesli are available – a perfect match with milk, yogurt, or berries. Täkumetsa products are known for their natural and pure composition, offering energy and goodness at the start of each day.

All these carefully chosen components create a breakfast where every bite carries the taste and story of Estonia.

Radisson Blu Hotel Olümpia

The breakfast table offers a variety of homely Estonian delicacies to delight both locals and international guests. Alongside coffee, guests can enjoy traditional kama candies – a sweet bite that leads directly to Estonian flavors. Fish lovers will find an expanded fish selection, including Baltic herring in different marinades and herring in dill marinade.

For those with a sweet tooth, the hotel’s own baked kringel and homemade apple cake – inspired by Estonian kitchen classics – await. Health and smoothie enthusiasts can enjoy a kama smoothie – a fresh and nourishing way to start the day.

These carefully selected flavors create a breakfast where homeliness and Estonian tradition meet.

Mercure Tallinn

At Mercure Hotel, Estonian food is celebrated daily at breakfast – offering as much local produce as possible. For an international hotel chain, the key principle is “Discover Local,” and every effort is made to ensure guests can experience Estonia right from the breakfast table. Many products come with information about their origin, making every bite conscious and meaningful.

Although there are no additional special offers as part of the September campaign, local flavors will continue to greet guests every morning.

Nordic Hotel Forum

At the business and conference hotel Nordic Hotel Forum in the heart of Tallinn, guests are welcomed with fresh Estonian dairy products, garden vegetables, traditional rye bread, seasonal dishes, and even honey harvested from the hotel’s own rooftop beehives. Come and experience the flavors of Estonia – it all begins at the breakfast table!
