Tartu City Honours Conference Ambassadors
Tartu City together with Estonian Convention Bureau celebrated the outstanding contributions of Tartu conference ambassadors, including renowned academics and industry leaders, at an award ceremony at the Alexela Creative Hub on Tuesday, 6th of February 2024.
The ambassadors were acknowledged for their expertise, industry knowledge and unwavering commitment to successfully hosting international conferences in Tartu in 2023.
According to Tartu Mayor Urmas Klaas, conference organizers and ambassadors introduce Tartu city to new visitors continuously, and their work is very important for the city. “I am very pleased to note that Tartu continues as a successful conference destination, attracting prestigious international events, influential entrepreneurs, and creators. This year, Tartu is the European Capital of Culture, hosting over 1000 diverse events, which means an exciting and enriching year in both cultural and conference landscapes,” said Klaas.
According to Kadri Karu, Managing Director of the Estonian Convention Bureau, Tartu stands out as a destination for scientific and professional conferences, which helps to promote Tartu as a top center in many fields and strengthen international cooperation opportunities for local researchers and specialists. “We hope that the exemplary work and initiative of Tartu’s diligent conference ambassadors will inspire many other organizers,” said Karu.
Last year, 52 international conferences took place in Tartu. University of Tartu brought the most international conferences to the city, and the business festival sTARTUp Day attracted the highest number of participants.
In addition, three new Tartu conference ambassadors were appointed: one from Tartu University, one from the Estonian University of Life Sciences, and one from the Education and Youth Board. A Tartu conference ambassador brings conferences related to their field to Tartu, contributing to the development of both Tartu city and the international conference center. Currently, there are 137 recognized conference ambassadors in Tartu.
