Tartu hosted Europeade 2011

The 48th European Folk Dance and Music Festival, or simply the Europeade 2011, this year showed its heart and passion in Tartu, Estonia, on July 20 – 24.

The roots of the festival can be found in 1964 when the first Europeade was seen in Antwerp.

The European biggest festival of folk arts gathered 3,000 participants to the summery Tartu. During four days, 143 groups from 27 countries presented their culture and traditions. The longest journeys were taken by the Faroese, Greenlandic and Cypriot visitors, the biggest numbers came from Finland, Latvia and Germany.
