Estonia Places Well in 2010 ICCA Rankings, Tartu Gaining Ground
Estonia continues to place well in the International Congress and Convention Association's rankings of top meeting destinations, with its university city, Tartu, making a leap in its position for 2010.
A new report by the ICCA puts Estonia in 46th position, with 43 association meetings held in the country last year. The ranking makes Estonia the number one ICCA destination country in the Baltic States. Though the figures mark a slight drop in ranking, the number of conferences hosted last year was nearly the same as the prior, and the country has largely held onto the gains it has made since 2008, when it was ranked 65th.
Among the 340 cities covered by the rankings, Estonia's capital Tallinn comes in 65th place with 28 international conferences held last year.
Last year it was Tartu that climbed more in the city rankings list, jumping from 171th place in 2009 to 120th in 2010. The university city is clearly gaining popularity as a conference destination, hosting 15 events in 2010 compared to 10 the year prior.
The ICCA rankings cover meetings organised by international associations which take place on a regular basis and rotate between a minimum of three countries. The full ICCA statistics report for 2010 will be released in June.
