The Nordic Hotel Forum, the business and conference hotel that opened in December last year on Viru Square in Tallinn, has marked its first anniversary with an official four-star certificate issued by the Estonian Hotel and Restaurant Association.
According to Feliks Mägus, to Chairman of the Board of the Nordic Hotel Forum, the first year of operation was successful. “Despite the fact that the hotel was launched in the rather unfavourable period at the end of the year, the Nordic Hotel Forum’s peak season fill rate reached 62%.
This result achieved in the first year is commendable as it almost rivals the fill rates of the hotels that have been in operation for many years. We can state that the Nordic Hotel Forum has successfully entered the four-star business and conference hotels market segment in Tallinn and this is confirmed by the issue of the official four-star certificate,” the Chairman of the Board summed up the first year.
Mägus pointed out that stars are not compulsory for hotels but the presence of stars is vital for the clientele. “Stars are the guarantee that the hotel offers high-level services and the guests can be sure that they will find more or less equal comfort and range of services at hotels with the same number of stars in different countries,” added Mägus.
Countries of Scandinavia and the Baltic States have a common system of hotel stars (1-5 stars), which means that there are identical minimal requirements for all hotels with stars. The common standards include requirements for the hotel building, the offered services and the comfort level, irrespective of the exact number of stars the hotel name carries. In Estonia stars are awarded by the seven-member classification commission appointed by the Board of the Estonian Hotel and Restaurant Association. The stars will remain in force for three years, after which period the Nordic Hotel Forum will have to be reassessed by the commission. Including Nordic Hotel Forum, there are now 7 four-star hotels in Tallinn, and 3 five-star hotels.
