Fotografiska re-opens its doors. The exhibition period is extended

May 11th 2020

As of today, May 11, Fotografiska Tallinn’s doors have been reopened to visitors for seven days a week. As the new exhibition season was barely started before the emergency situation was declared, thanks to the cooperation with photographers and curators, all the exhibitions can be seen at Fotografiska Tallinn for an extended period.

Currently, the works of four international artists are on display – Exposed by Bryan Adams, The Darkroom by Tom of Finland, Dark Testament by Lina Iris Viktor and Gold by Sebastião Salgado – exhibitions that also marked the beginning of the spring season of the centre. It is also possible to book a visit to Fotografiska in advance so that everyone can visit the exhibitions safely. Nevertheless, visitors are welcomed to the exhibitions without pre-booking.

Margit Aasmäe, the co-founder and CEO of Fotografiska Tallinn, expresses that the time of the emergency has been full of challenges and made them think about how to do things in a new, different way. “We moved our gift shop products and restaurant delicacies as quick as possible to the online shop, the creation of which was actually intended for a later project. Yet another necessary and worthwhile undertaking was to make live tours of two exhibitions. The feedback from the viewers turned out to be extremely positive, which undoubtedly encourages us to think about such a format in the future as well.”

Aasmäe adds that the centre is opened step by step. “The gift shop and cafe with an open backyard located on the ground floor are already opened for the visitors, as well as the exhibition areas on the first and second floor. The restaurant with its long-awaited rooftop garden will be opened from May 20. We will also continue carrying out popular private tours for two, yet larger tour groups can initially be formed up to ten people at the time. Cinema screenings and cultural events will not disappear from our plans. Still, at the moment, we are figuring out a suitable format that would support the possibility to experience them most safely.”

Fotografiska Tallinn is located in the heart of Telliskivi Creative City, and is open seven days a week: Mon-Tue from 10 AM to 9 PM; Wed-Sat from 10 AM to 10 PM and Sun from 10 AM to 6 PM.
