The University of Tartu Museum runs this tour of Toome Hill, home to many of the city’s symbolic landmarks. The tour introduces the hill’s various historical layers, key buildings and monuments. It is followed by a visit to one of Tartu’s iconic buildings, depending on which version of the tour you choose: The ‘Medieval Tartu’ tour takes you to the spectacular ruins of Tartu Cathedral, where you can climb the towers and see the burial chamber. ‘Scientific Centre Tartu’ ends in a visit to the Old Observatory, home to the world-famous Fraunhofer Refractor. The ‘University Town Tartu’ tour covers the city’s most prestigious venue, the University of Tartu Main Building, where you’ll have a chance to visit the historical lock-up, which introduces 19th century student life.
